Boston Red Sox vs Los Angeles Angels Prediction: Does Jaime Barria Regress Tonight?
The Red Sox have been one of the hotter teams in the league in the month of May, as they have a record of 11-7 against mostly playoff teams who will likely be at the top of their respective divisions by the end of the season. In the month of May, the Sox have faced Toronto, Atlanta, St. Louis, San Diego, Seattle, and Philadelphia. All of these teams are extremely talented and Boston has managed to go 4-1-1 in these 6 series so they have elevated their play, and their success is largely due to their explosive offense.

Boston Red Sox vs Los Angeles Angels Prediction
Rafael Devers has been driving the ball out of the yard at a high clip and already has 44 RBIs, ranking him second in all of baseball. Another fantastic addition to the Red Sox this season has been Masataka Yoshida. The Japanese star is slashing .303/.382/.493 with 28 RBIs and always gives you a quality at-bat as he has just as many strikeouts as walks on the year.
Yoshida’s numbers are even more impressive when you consider that he hit around .150 through the first 15-20 games of the year so he has been red hot over the last month. The continued star power of Devers, paired with the offensive emergence of guys like Yoshida, Duran, and Verdugo has led to Boston having an offense ranked in the top 10 in most major categories.
Tonight, they face a lefty in Jaime Barria who has been impressive to this point with a 1.96 ERA, but I believe he is due for some regression. Barria has found success in more of a long-relief role as he has not thrown more than 4 innings in any appearance this season. This eludes to the fact that Barria has struggled against lineups the second time through. Given the fact that he is being given the start and has not been used as an opener in the past, It leads me to believe that the Angels expect anywhere from 4-6 innings from Barria, meaning he will have to face this gauntlet of a Boston lineup 2-3 times through.
I think the Red Sox will break out against him in the 3rd-5th innings after seeing him the first time and getting a feel for his stuff. The fact that this line is also basically a pick is suspect as well considering that the Angels are at home and Barria has an ERA nearly 3 runs lower than Tanner Houck’s, which sits at 5.48. Houck has actually been better on the road this season and has some nasty stuff, so this could be his breakout start. With all of that being said, I am rolling with RED SOX F5 ML at -104 and RED SOX FULL GAME ML at -104 for 1U each as my MOST CONFIDENT MLB Plays of the Day.
