The Philadelphia Phillies are doing exactly what they did last season. They are getting hot at the right time. Winners of seven of their previous ten games, The Phillies are now comfortably leading the NL Wildcard race. Trea Turner is the hottest hitter in baseball since his home crowd gave him a sarcastic standing ovation for his underwhelming play, and Kyle Schwarber now has more home runs than singles this season. What if I told you I am fading this team tonight?

San Diego Padres vs. Philadelphia Phillies Prediction
It’s hilarious to witness this Padres offense come to life as they approach postseason elimination, but they’re not dead yet! Yes, the Padres are 6.5 games back of a WC spot, but this offense has been on fire for the last week or so. I’ve seen crazier things happen, and it’s clear that this clubhouse hasn’t thrown in the towel or waived the white flag just yet.
Juan Soto is dialed at the plate, and Fernando Tatis is one of the best hitters in baseball. Ha-Seong Kim has turned out to be one of the most pleasant surprises in baseball with his offensive outburst this season, and Manny Machado/Xander Bogaerts are always dangerous in that lineup.
Tonight, this red-hot Padres lineup will be facing Michael Lorenzen, who threw a no-hitter earlier this season against the Nationals. Well, he hasn’t been throwing no-hitters recently; to be honest, it’s been quite the opposite for Lorenzen. Since throwing a no-hitter on August 9th, Lorenzen has given up 24 hits in fourteen innings of work. He’s given up 15 runs (13 earned) over his last three starts. Continue to fade Lorenzen, as he’s struggled to find his mojo since making history earlier this month.
The Padres pitching situation won’t be much better tonight, as they turn to their bullpen early after Avila opens this one up. I’d still rather back the Padres bullpen over Lorenzen at this point, and the Padres nearly made history last night as they clawed their way back into that game. Let’s give the Padres one last chance to come through for us.
Fading the Phillies right now isn’t easy to stomach, but seeing the Padres as the betting favorite tonight should be enough to push you over the edge. They have no business being a favorite against the red-hot Phillies tonight, but they are. Bet the Padres on the ML and back their offense to shine on Tatis Jr. Bobblehead giveaway night. You don’t think he’s ready to put on a show for the city of San Diego and their fans tonight? I’m willing to bet he does…
