Boston Red Sox vs. New York Yankees Prediction
This is the oldest rivalry in baseball and one of the best rivalries in all of sports. The Yankees lead the all-time series 1235-1021. That is a lot of baseball games.
New York has been one of the most disappointing teams in all of baseball this year.
The Yankees will enter play representing a record of 71-72. New York is eight games out of the final wildcard spot.
Aaron Judge has been the only Yankees position player that delivered this year. The issue for Judge was health, as when he went on the DL, the team really struggled. Judge has hit 31 home runs and driven in 58 runs in 89 games this season.
Another bright spot for the Yankees is rookie shortstop Anthony Volpe. He struggled initially but has had a productive season overall, blasting 20 home runs while driving in 58 runs.
Starting pitcher Gerrit Cole will be a finalist to win the Cy Young award this season. Cole supports a record of 13-4 and an ERA of 2.79.
For the rest of the Yankees, there are not many good things to say about.
Boston enters play playing to the tune of a 73-70 record. The Sox are six games out of the final wildcard spot in the AL.
Boston entered the year with reasonably low expectations, so the fact that this team is three games over .500 at this stage in the season is a positive.
Third baseman Rafael Devers has been the star of this team. Devers is batting .272 while hitting 29 home runs and driving in 93 runs.
Veteran Justin Turner has been a great addition to the lineup. Turner is batting .285 while driving in a team-best 94 runs.
Masataka Yoshida has been the most consistent bat in the Sox lineup. Yoshida is batting a team-best .293, which ranks 12th in baseball.
The Yankees will send 24-year-old right-hander Randy Vasquez to the mound. Opposing Vasquez will be veteran Nick Pivetta.
