We were spoiled with the first week of the NFL this weekend, and we are now in the full swing of the college football and NFL season, but we still have the MLB to fill in the gaps during the week. Tonight, I have two teams who should easily take their respective games parlayed together.
MLB Parlay Today
Leg 1: Astros Moneyline (-320)
The Astros took one on the chin last night in the series opener, losing 0-4 to the Athletics at home. The Astros are in the middle of a very tight race in the AL West and can NOT afford to lose "easy" home games to teams like the Athletics. They must bounce back tonight, and Justin Verlander on the mound always helps. Verlander is 11-7 with a 3.23 ERA this season, and the Astros are 5-2 in games started by Verlander since his return to Houston.
The Athletics send out J.P. Sears, who is 4-11 with a 4.51 ERA on the season. What makes this a great matchup for the Astros is that they have been crushing lefties all season, especially over the last 30 days. Over the last 30 days, the Astros lead all of baseball with a .904 OPS against left-handed pitching, and Sears is a lefty. Sears has started two games against the Astros this season, losing both. The Astros most recently tagged him for five runs in 5.2 innings, hitting three home runs off him.
The Astros need every game they can get with just a two-game lead in the west heading down the stretch. Both the Rangers and Mariners are hot on their tail, so tonight's game is massive. The Astros are 24-14 (63%) against the A's at home since 2019 and have gone 9-2 against the A's at home in their last 11 head-to-head meetings. The Astros should bounce back and take game two tonight.
Leg 2: Mariners Moneyline (-200)
As previously mentioned, the AL West playoff race is an intense one, and the Mariners are hanging in there just 2.5 games behind the Astros. Just like the Astros, the Mariners dropped their series opener in what should have been an "easy" game against the Angels. The Mariners lost 5-8 in the 11th inning last night, but tonight, they should also have a much better matchup on the mound.
The Angels start Patrick Sandoval tonight, who is 7-12 with a 4.31 ERA on the season. Sandoval has been hit or miss, but the Mariners absolutely crushed him in the only meeting he had against them this season. The Mariners hung five runs on Sandoval in five innings in a 6-2 win back in June. This has been a theme for the Mariners, as they have also crushed lefties recently, just like the Astros. The Mariners are second in baseball with a .307 average off lefties over the last 30 days, including an .884 OPS.
The Angels have had the most tumultuous season you can ask for, and the team is in a horrible spot right now. They are without their two best players, Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout, due to injury, and that is just the cherry on top of what has been a crazy season in Los Angeles (Anaheim, really). The Angels were somewhat lucky to take game one, but with Sandoval on the mound, I expect the Mariners to have another big game offensively. Both the Mariners and Astros should take care of business tonight after both dropping the series openers at home.
