Although their playoff chances are slim to none, the New York Yankees aren’t mathematically eliminated from playoff contention just yet. They’ve been playing like they still have a chance, and although they lost last night’s series opener, their offense has been producing over the last two weeks. Aaron Judge is back, and until they’ve been eliminated from a Wildcard spot, it doesn’t seem like they’re waiving the white flag…

Toronto Blue Jays vs. New York Yankees Prediction
The Yankees have less than a 0.1% chance to make the postseason (per ESPN), and even if they can’t, I’m sure they wouldn’t mind “playing spoiler” against their division rival. Either way, the Yankees still look motivated to win with their slim postseason hopes still alive as they face a familiar arm in Kevin Gausman tonight.
Gausman is one of the best pitchers in the American League, but the Yankees have had his number over the years. Maybe it’s the fact that they’ve faced him a whopping 29 times. Many of the Yankees hitters have good success against him, including Aaron Judge (.300 in 30 ABs) and Giancarlo Stanton (.417 in 12 ABs).
Although Gausman has been hit up by the Yankees in the past, I was still surprised to see the Blue Jays at (-120) on the moneyline tonight. The Blue Jays are a much better team on a four-game winning streak with their ace on the mound against Michael King… shouldn’t they be at least (-150) on the moneyline?
The odds in this game aren’t even the weirdest part. The Yankees were favorites to win this series before it started, which, if you look at the pitching matchups, makes zero sense. It’s always important to remember that the books are smarter than us, and with the Yankees losing the first game of the series, I have to back them today.
Toronto ML looks like the easiest play on the board today against an underwhelming Yankees team, but if bets like that hit, Las Vegas wouldn’t look as shiny as it does. My point is that sportsbooks wouldn’t be in business if bets like Toronto ML hit more often than not because the public is smashing them with bets. Fade the public and bet the Yankees to steal game two of this series.
