Chicago Cubs vs. Atlanta Braves Best Bet: Can Jameson Taillon, Darius Vines Take Control?

Last night, the Chicago Cubs blew a 6-0 victory to the Braves on one of the worst defensive plays I’ve seen in my life. The Cubs are close to losing the final Wildcard spot, as they are now only 0.5 games ahead of the Miami Marlins. Chicago hasn’t finished the season strong, and if anything you could say that they are “melting” under the pressure of a potential playoff spot.

Chicago Cubs vs. Atlanta Braves Prediction

Thanks to plenty of late-inning runs, the over cashed in last night’s series opener. The total was at 9.5 last night with Justin Steele and Bryce Elder on the bump. After seeing the over cash in that game, you’d expect a much higher total in tonight’s contest between two suspect starting pitchers. After opening at 10.5, the total has now gotten steamed down to 9.5 most places.

This line movement on the total is interesting. We just saw two All Star pitchers give up plenty of runs and an over cash, you’re telling me this total is now lower than it was yesterday with Jameson Taillon and Darius Vines on the mound? Something doesn’t add up here…

Taillon might have a 5.05 ERA, but he is an experienced righty who’s pitched in must-win spots like this plenty of times. He’s actually looked much better in his last three outings, with two of them being shutouts. I wouldn’t be surprised if Taillon shocks the world and pitches well against an Atlanta team that has looked checked-out since clinching the NL East.

I like this Darius Vines kid, and although he’s coming off his worst performance of the season, I’m expecting the Cubs to beat themselves tonight. This team has found every opportunity to whittle-away their WC lead. After watching Suzuki drop a pop-up last night to pretty much secure a victory for the Cubs, it’s clear this team doesn’t have a “clutch gene.” Fade their offense tonight against a good young arm who throws a lot of fastballs, a pitch the Cubs surprisingly don’t love.

Only 33% of bets, but 53% of the handle are currently backing this under tonight (per VSIN). These splits are sharp, and could be part of the reason behind why this total has dropped a full run. Bet this under before the total gets to 9, the Braves are checked out and the Cubs’ lineup will be playing so tight after blowing last night’s victory, there’s no way they show out on the road tonight.
