The Miami Marlins have a doubleheader today, while the Chicago Cubs lost yesterday, so if the Cubs lose today and the Marlins happen to drop both of their games, and the Reds win this game, the Reds are back in the final spot. This is a race that may likely come down to the 162nd game, and the Reds need every single hit they can get. This motivation saw them score 11 runs yesterday in an 11-7 win against the Cleveland Guardians in the series opener. Rookie Noelvi Marte went 1-4 with a walk and a run in that game last night. September must be Marte's favorite month because Marte ended a three-game hitless streak by going 2-3 with a walk and run on September 1st. His numbers entering the final few days of September stand at a .361 batting average, .443 OBP, and .852 OPS. He has been a machine over the month, and he is currently on a nine-game hit streak.
Marte doesn't hit with much power, but like Elly De La Cruz, he is very fast. Marte can bust it down the line, turning routine grounders into base hits. He only has six extra-base hits, but we don't need more than just a single on this bet tonight. His bases line is sitting at 0.5 tonight, with some juice on the over.
Noelvi Marte has a hit in 16 of 19 games in September. He is hitting his groove right now, and the Reds absolutely need it with the postseason on the line.
