Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Milwaukee Brewers Prediction
Arizona surprisingly won Game 1, as they entered yesterday as the heaviest underdog on the card.
Arizona fell behind 3-0 early. When you face Corbin Burnes and one of the best bullpens in baseball, that is typically a tough deficit to overcome, but the DBacks reasoned with three runs in the third and one in the fourth, which proved to be the difference.
Corbin Caroll, who likely will win NL Rookie of the Year, sparked the comeback when he blasted a two-run home run to cut the lead to 3-2.
Ketel Marte followed Carrol's home run with one of his own to tie the game. Catcher Gabriel Moreno blasted a solo shot in the fourth, which was enough to hold off the Brewers.
Milwaukee probably feels as if they should have scored more than three runs.
The Brewers had 12 hits paired with four walks. Milwaukee left 11 men on base, including the fifth inning, where they had bases loaded with no outs.
Third baseman Evan Longoria turned back the clock, making an incredible catch that led to an inning-ending double play.
Shortstop Willy Adames paced the Brewers with three hits. Josh Donaldson and Sal Frelick added two hits a piece.
Corbin Burnes was not sharp, allowing four earned runs in just 4.0 innings.
The short outing forced Craig Counsell to use six relievers, including multiple high-leverage pitchers.
Arizona will send their ace, Zac Gallen, to try and end the series today. Gallen went 17-9 with a 3.47 ERA. His 17 wins were the second most in baseball.
Freddy Peralta will oppose Gallen. Peralta went 12-10 with an ERA of 3.86.
Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Milwaukee Brewers Pick
Peralta is one of the more underrated arms in baseball because he is behind Burnes and Brandon Woodruff.
Peralta was outstanding at home this season, with an ERA of 3.44 while going 7-4.
Peralta went over this number 29 out of his 31 starts this season.
Peralta has great numbers against this DBacks lineup. This current Arizona lineup is just 2-22 against Peralta (0.91).
Lastly, Milwaukee had to use six relievers yesterday, as I mentioned earlier. They will need Peralta to give some innings today with high-leverage guys unavailable.
