5 minTexas Rangers vs. Arizona Diamondbacks Prediction, Betting Pick, and Latest Odds for World Series Game 3
Max Scherzer is the ultimate competitor. In my 25 years of life, I’ve never witnessed someone show so much effort and intensity on the mound. Unfortunately for Mad Max and the Rangers, he simply hasn’t looked sharp since returning from injury. In the two starts Scherzer has made since his return, he’s pitched a combined less than seven innings, while giving up nine hits and seven earned runs. He simply doesn’t have his stuff right now, and after the Diamondbacks stole game two in a blowout fashion, I’m willing to bet Scherzer struggles again tonight. Here’s my play for Game 3 of the World Series…

Texas Rangers vs. Arizona Diamondbacks Prediction
As a Nationals fan myself, I’ve been lucky enough to witness Scherzer’s greatness in the postseason over the years. He simply doesn’t look like the same pitcher right now that I saw win us a World Series back in 2019. It’s not command that’s been the issue. If anything, he might be throwing too many strikes, which has been part of the issue in his past two postseason appearances for the Rangers. Scherzer doesn’t have his best stuff on the mound right now, and if he keeps grooving pitches, he’s in for a world of trouble against the red-hot Snakes tonight. He’s thrown 107 pitches so far this postseason, and 72 of them have been strikes. He’s filling the zone too much right now, and it’s costing him.
This start is going to go one of two ways for Mad Max tonight. He either throws less strikes, looking to get Arizona to chase more in this contest. That could help limit Arizona’s offensive success, but that’s also not going to keep Scherzer in this game longer than four-ish innings. If he doesn’t make the necessary adjustments and continues to fill the zone, Scherzer will get rocked for his third straight postseason start. Either way, Mad Max probably isn’t going to be pitching more than four innings tonight.
After getting crushed 9-1 in Game 2, I’m expecting Bruce Bochy to have a short leash for all of his pitchers tonight. The Rangers don’t want to go down 2-1 in this series after opening it up with a win; they’ll lose all of their momentum. Whether Scherzer stays away from the strike zone or gets crushed again throwing too many strikes, I’m willing to bet he gets yanked from this game earlier than expected. You can bet Scherzer to record less than 14.5 pitching outs tonight, which happens to be my favorite play on the board. As much as I hate to say it, it doesn’t look good for Scherzer tonight in Game 3, and the total moving up from 9 to 9.5 reflects that.
