The Miami Marlins travel to St. Louis tonight to take on the Cardinals from Busch Stadium at 4:15 ET. The Marlins have been abysmal to start their 2024 campaign, going 0–7 over their first seven games. The Cardinals have started 3–4 on their end, but have played a much harder strength of schedule, taking on the Dodgers and Padres to start the season. The Cardinals are decent -145 favorites this afternoon. What should we expect in this game?

Miami Marlins vs. St. Louis Cardinals Prediction
The Marlins have started their season winless, and it looks like they may be one of the worst teams in baseball in 2024 without a very good starting pitching rotation. That includes starting pitcher Ryan Weathers, who is somehow still in the MLB. Weathers started his season by giving up three earned runs in four innings against the Pirates for a 6.75 ERA. That is about where he has been his whole career, as he played just three games last season and had a 7.62 ERA. He only played 12 games in 2023 and had a 6.25 ERA. He now has a 5.91 career ERA and has not been able to establish himself in the MLB at all. With how he started the season against the Pirates, it doesn’t look like this year will be his year either. On the other side, the Cardinals are starting Lance Lynn, who is back with the team that drafted him. Lance Lynn started his career in St. Louis in 2011 and spent six seasons there before jumping around the MLB. After pitching with the White Sox and Dodgers last year, he is back in St. Louis. The 36-year-old has had a pretty good career with a career ERA of 3.73. Outside of a rough start to the season in Chicago last year, he has been a pretty consistent starter in the league every year. In his first start of the season, he had an impressive outing against the Dodgers, pitching four shutout innings while striking out five. The Cardinals are hitting better than the Marlins to start the season, and also have the much better pitching matchup. The Marlins are hitting just .197 over their first seven games of the season. There are also starting a career 6.00 ERA pitcher, who has not been able to establish himself in the MLB against one of the veterans in the MLB, who has a career sub-4.00 ERA. While the Cardinals have started 3–4, they have played two much better teams than the two the Marlins had to play. The Cardinals are the better all-around team and should start this series with a win at home.
