The New York Mets travel to Cincinnati tonight to take on the Reds in the series opener from Great American Ballpark in Ohio. The Reds have gotten off to a decent start this year, starting 4–2 and taking two of three games against the Phillies last series. The Mets have not had as good of a start, starting 1-5 against the Brewers and Tigers. The Mets were able to salvage game two of their doubleheader yesterday against the Tigers by scoring two in the bottom of the ninth to win 2-1. The Reds are slight favorites in today’s game coming in as the hotter hitting team. What should we expect in this game?

NEW YORK METS VS. CINCINNATI REDS PREDICTION
These two teams have been complete opposites on offense. The Mets have been completely anemic at the plate this season so far, while the Reds have been one of the better hitting teams in the MLB through six games. Through six games for each team, the Mets are hitting .173 and have just 13 runs scored. The Reds, on the other hand, are hitting .265 as a team and have scored 34 runs. The Reds have scored 21 more runs in the same amount of games this year, which is eye-opening. Pitching-wise, the Reds should have an advantage, as the Mets used their entire bullpen in the doubleheader yesterday. The Mets used seven relievers in game one of the doubleheader and one in game two. While some of them may be able to pitch again today, the bullpen is very thin for the Mets right now. Starting-wise, Jose Quintana will get the start for the Mets. Quintana was pretty good last year, sporting a 3.57 ERA in 2023. However, he is a lefty, and the Reds hit very well against lefty pitchers last year. The Reds ranked 11th in MLB with a .258 batting average against left-handed pitchers last year. With the Reds hitting much better as a team and Hunter Greene looking good as a young pitcher for them, I love the Reds to take game one of this series. They have the fresher bullpen and have had the much hotter bats, as the Mets have struggled to score more than a few runs in a game so far. I like the woes to continue for the Mets and the Reds to take the opener.
