Miami Marlins vs. St. Louis Cardinals Prediction: Can Steven Matz, Cardinals Keep Marlins Winless on Saturday?

Back to the diamond for a loaded MLB slate today, and I want to get things started early here. The St. Louis Cardinals (4-4) have a chance to clear the .500 mark today as they host the Miami Marlins (0-8) at Busch Stadium for the second game of this weekend series, and I am going back to the Birds.

Miami Marlins vs. St. Louis Cardinals Prediction

While it is hard to keep fading a winless team, especially in baseball (they do have to win at some point), I will fade the Marlins again here in another strong spot for the Birds. They are throwing a better lineup out there today than they did Thursday, and the boys still put up eight in the home opener win. They made it harder than they needed to and had to come from behind, almost dropping a big game to a winless team. Like I said, Miami will win some games at some point and likely soon, but I think a motivated team like St. Louis goes out and wins the weekend series today.

Trevor Rodgers has struggled immensely as of late, and if he gives up runs like most of the Marlins starters have, this could be another troublesome game for the pitching staff. The bullpen has been atrocious here so far this season, and gave up huge spots late again on Thursday. On the flip side, Steve Matz has a decent track record on a relatively small sample size against the current Marlins hitters, but still very impressive numbers. Through 31 at bats, he has held them to a .194/.219./.281 slash line, while striking out six and issuing just one walk.
