Miami Marlins vs. St. Louis Cardinals Prediction

This offseason St. Louis signed the 36 year-old veteran pitcher to a one year deal, a move many baseball fans overlooked. Gibson has never graded out well on stat cast and will never look like an elite pitcher according to the advanced analytics. That was exactly the case in his season debut against he San Diego Padres where he was hit hard, only struck out four hitters, and gave up two solo homers. And yet, Gibson worked through seven innings in a game the Cardinals' bullpen desperately needed an extended outing from their starter and his team came away with a victory.

Since 2014, Gibson has started more games than any pitcher and ranks fourth in innings pitched. He is isn't going to wow you with talent especially at this stage of his career but he excels by eating innings and giving his ball club a chance to win games.

Today, Gibson's outs prop is set at 17.5 and I'm expecting him to give the Cardinals another extended outing against a Marlins lineup that has really struggled to start the season. The Marlins rank dead last in wRC+ (61), they have the second worst on-base percentage (.275), and are averaging the fourth fewest pitchers per plate appearance (3.71). Consider taking the over on Kyle Gibson's over 17.5 pitching outs prop.
