It’s been quite the series between the Los Angeles Angels and Tampa Bay Rays down in Tampa this week. There has been a combined 23 runs scored between the two teams in the first two games. With two solid arms off to great starts in 2024 slated to face-off in the third game of the series, will we see another offensive showcase between these two AL teams, or will Reid Detmers and Zack Littell silence the bats on Wednesday?

Both starting pitchers in Wednesday’s game at the Trop have a combined ERA lower than most pitchers in baseball. Both Detmers and Littell have dealt for sub-1.20 ERAs early-on in the 2024 season. Most would expect them to shut down both of these offenses after plenty of runs in the first two games, but I think there’s a trend in this series that is going to continue…
If you look at the pitching props for both starters in this game, they are getting disrespected compared to how they’ve performed in 2024. It looks like oddsmakers are expecting another slugfest in the third game of this series that’s already produced 20+ runs in two games thus far. I’m willing to bet at least one of these two starters struggles to get going in Wednesday night’s matchup, and that’s all it’s going to take for this game to go over the total.
Both bullpens are extremely gassed after throwing a ton of innings in the first two games of this series. Even if Detmers and Littell do their jobs and silence these offenses early in this game, I’m expecting these bullpens to struggle mightily. The over will never be dead in this game, a bet I love having in my pocket. As square as it sounds, I just don’t see either team’s bullpen finding success against these red-hot lineups…
It seems like the public is expecting these two thriving starters to silence the bats in the third game of this series.
