It’s been a much more competitive series between the Houston Astros and Washington Nationals than I think we all expected. It seems like some of Washington’s mojo from their World Series run five years ago. After their walk-off win in the bottom of the tenth inning yesterday, will the Nationals bring their bats to Nats Park with the news of Cristian Javier getting scratched this morning?

Houston Astros vs. Washington Nationals Prediction
The Astros have commented on the Nats five-year anniversary celebration, stating that “they have bigger things to worry about right now.” That’s right, they do; the Astros are currently 7-15 in the basement of their division. The Nationals have outplayed them this season, and the fact that their are “rubbing in” the fact they beat Houston five years ago for a World Series trophy is comical. You can tell the Astros mean business in this series. After losing yesterday’s game in extra innings, I’m sure the Astros will come to play even with their starting pitcher getting scratched.
Mitchell Parker will be making the second start of his career after shutting down the Dodgers in his debut. I’m not expecting the same legendary outing to get replicated against the Astros on Sunday. If anything, I think his outing this afternoon will go much differently. The Astros crush left-handed pitching, batting nearly .300 on the season. This could be a long afternoon for the Nats young starter…
It looks like Hunter Brown will be getting the nod after Javier got scratched. He has really struggled this season, carrying a 10.54 ERA into today’s series finale against the Nationals. Washington’s bats have been alive all series with the fans showing up for the reunion and the former World Series champions in attendance. Expect much of the same from the Nats bats once again on Sunday against the struggling Astros starter.
I don’t think oddsmakers realize how many runs are feasible with these two starting pitchers on the bump in a day-game in DC. Baseball should be carrying in the crisp afternoon air with both teams looking to make a statement in the final game of this series. Bet the over before you see it get steamed up to o/u 9.5 with the news of Hunter Brown making another start for Houston on Sunday. I’ll meet you at the cash counter.
