This could arguably be a bigger play than one unit but will remain disciplined here. Backing Zack Wheeler is a no-brainer but Nick Martinez has some nice lifetime stats against Philly and we will back him even harder.
Philadelphia Phillies vs. Cincinnati Reds Prediction
Nick Martinez is typically a mid three ERA pitcher. So far this year he is in the mid fours so I’m expecting that to improve. Martinez against these Phillies bats lifetime has them hitting 7-54 against them which is a putrid .130. Our juice reducer is nice because the game total is 7.5 so the chance wins by 6+ is slim. Philly also has the worst rated bullpen in the MLB in terms of ERA.
We need three outs from Wheeler. The 4-9 bats on Cincinnati are 6-30 against Wheeler which is just a .200 average. If he cruises in the first he may just face the four through six hitters and they are only 1-12 against him lifetime. Wheeler is elite and I trust him for the three outs. He already faced Cincinnati this year and had a clean second inning. Let's roll!
