Cincinnati Reds vs. San Francisco Giants Prediction
When Logan Webb pitches at home, he is nearly unhittable. His change-up seems to move better at home under the pitcher-friendly San Francisco conditions. When he’s pitching on the road it’s a different story, but tonight he will be back on his home mound after two brutal road starts.
I want to buy-low on Logan Webb after getting hit up by the Red Sox and Phillies on the road in his last two starts. I trust him to bounce back at home where he’s bad better splits for the entirely of his career. With how poorly the Reds lineup has performed in recent weeks, I don’t see them finding much success at all after traveling from Cincinnati and getting swept by the Diamondbacks.
I typically won’t try to fade winning/losing streaks in MLB because it simply does not work. The first inclination when looking at the odds in this matchup tonight would be to back the Reds to snap their losing streak after almost winning yesterday with Logan Webb struggling of late. That’s too easy of a narrative to back, though. Instead, let’s buy-low on the Giants on their moneyline which you can get around (-150).
With Andrew Abbott on the bump for the Reds, I could see the Giants finding success early against the young lefty. The Giants don’t mind facing LHP at all; they actually perform better statistically against lefties this season. Let’s fade Abbott after his best start of the season; if he was going to shut down the Giants on Friday night, the Reds wouldn’t have opened up as big of an underdog on the moneyline as they did.
I’m fully expecting Logan Webb to bounce back after two horrid road starts. He is just better in San Francisco, whether it’s the pitching conditions, the hitter-friendly ballpark or his comfort level pitching at home. Fade Abbott and the Reds in the midst of their losing streak and back the Giants to pull this one out at home; I’ll meet you at the cash counter.
