New York Yankees vs. Tampa Bay Rays Prediction
Taj Bradley will be making his 2024 debut for the Rays on Friday night. The Yankees opened up (-145) favorites against the young right-hander, but are now only (-125) on the moneyline. That’s some serious respect on the .500 Rays against the 25-13 Yankees. Oddsmakers must be expecting a solid start from the 23 year old righty on Friday.
With the total dropping from o/u 8.5 to o/u 8, I feel confident in backing Bradley. We just saw the Yankees score 22 runs in a series against Houston before heading to Tampa. If Bradley was going to get roughed up in his 2024 debut, the total would be moving up, now down and the steam on the moneyline wouldn’t be cooking towards the Rays in this spot.
After a slow start to the season, the Rays offense is finally starting to put it all together. Their veterans who missed some time early-on have now gotten some at-bats under their belts, with guys like Randy Arozarena carrying their offense. After their first loss in a week in their last game, I’m fully expecting the Rays to bounce back tonight.
Buy-low on the Rays at home in this series with their young right-hander on the bump. Clarke Schmidt has been solid for the Yankees this year, but if he was going to shut out Tampa Bay tonight the Rays wouldn’t be catching this much steam. Fade the red-hot Yanks, and back Tampa to do what they do best; beat the Yankees at home.
