ANALYSIS

Washington Nationals vs. Atlanta Braves Prediction: Can Trevor Williams, Nationals Get Hot Early?

The Washington Nationals are in Atlanta to meet the Braves for the last game of their four-game series from Truist Park in Atlanta tonight. The Nationals have surprisingly taken two of the first three games of the series as they are now in a position to win the series with a win tonight behind Trevor Williams. The Braves are on a little bit of a cold run right now and must win this game to the series and get back on track.

Washington Nationals vs. Atlanta Braves Prediction

The Braves are still looking to adjust to life without Ronald Acuna Jr. Acuna got injured in the Pirate series and will not play for the rest of the year with a torn ACL. This is a big blow to the Braves offense, and they have responded by scoring just six runs over the three games in this series so far, averaging two per game. The Braves will send out left-handed picture Ray Kerr on the mound first. Kerr is a relief pitcher who has been thrust into the starting role for the Braves and has struggled. His last outing was a four-inning appearance against the Pirates in which he allowed five runs on seven hits and a walk. In the outing before that, he gave up two runs on two home runs against the Padres in 3.1 innings. The Braves lost both games as well. The Nationals will counter with right-handed pitcher Trevor Williams. Williams is in his second season with the nationals and has had an excellent start to the 2024 season. He is pitching to the tune of a 2.29 ERA and has a 4–0 record. He has been extremely hot in May, posting a 1.85 ERA over five starts this month. In ten outings this season, he’s given up more than two earned runs in just two of them. Trevor Williams has done very well against this Braves lineup, as he has allowed an expected batting average of .264 and has a 4.6% walk rate and 18.5% strikeout rate. Marcell Ozuna and Orlando Arcia are really only the two batters that have hit well off Trevor Williams, as most of the other Braves in the lineup have struggled against him. Williams is 2–1 with a 3.48 ERA in six starts and ten total appearances against the Braves in his career.

The Nationals have looked like the better team in this series and the Braves are still adjusting to life without Ronald Acuna Jr. They’re not sending the strongest arm out to the mound today, while Trevor Williams and the Nationals have been hot in May. The odds are suggesting a Braves win, giving us a nice price on the Nationals first five. We can get the extra half run of insurance and still get plus money at +105. That is where I’m going with this bet tonight.
