The Oakland Athletics travel to San Diego to take on the Padres to kick off a new series and I like a ladder play in this Monday game. Joey Estes takes the mound for the A's and although he's had some great starts as of late, I think he may struggle against one of the best offenses against right-handed pitching this season. San Diego ranks second in wRC+ vs. righties this season (3rd over the last 15 days).

Oakland Athletics vs. San Diego Padres Prediction
I will be taking Fernando Tatis. Jr. to go over his total bases line and laddering that up to 5+ total bases. Tatis is swinging one of the hottest bats in baseball currently, as he is hitting .533 with a .400 ISO vs right-handed pitching since May 31st. 20 of his last 26 batted balls vs. righties have been hit 90+ MPH exit velocity, and he has now gone for two or more total bases in nine of his last 10 games, with four or more total bases in four of the last five games. He is just dialed in right now, and I expect that to continue today.
Joey Estes likes to throw primarily 4-seam fastballs and sliders to right-handed batters, which works out well for Fernando as his numbers against these pitches (vs. righties) are great. His batting averages vs. these two pitches are .400 and .360, and his slugging percentages are .771 and .720. Estes ranks in the 1st percentile in ground ball rate, and ranks in the 23rd percentile in barrel %, so he is giving up a ton of hard contact and lots of fly balls. With how hot Tatis has been, I don't see this matchup being a problem for him, and I expect another great game with at least one extra base hit.
