After two of the easiest overs in the first two games of this series, the public is going right back to the over in the final game of the series. More than 65% of the bets (on VSiN) are currently backing the over, but less than 45% of the handle is on the same bet. That means that a lot of bets are coming in on the over, but they are smaller wagers. Bigger bets are being placed on the under, which typically correlates with sharper action.
If the total was soaring over again tonight, why would the total be moving down from 8.5 to 8? Considering the majority of the bets are on the over, you’d think the total would be moving up. This reverse line movement is a great sign for under backers. The fact that the total is dropping with these two starting pitchers on the bump is surprising, but also a good sign for the under. It seems like oddsmakers are trusting both Sean Manaea and Andrew Heaney to rebound after a rough start to the season.
The Rangers are on a losing streak, and the Mets are currently on a winning streak of their own. I’m expecting this game to give more of a “playoff feel” than a typical regular season game. The Mets are close to playing themselves back into postseason contention and the Rangers are looking to end their losing skid. I’m not expecting an offensive showcase like we saw in the first two games. If anything, I’m banking on the offenses to cool off in an intense series finale.
The under in this game is probably the nastiest, most contrarian play on the board, and that’s exactly the type of bet we want to place. Fade the public and back the under on Wednesday; I’ll meet you at the cash counter after Manaea and Heaney both throw gems.
