5 minArizona Diamondbacks vs. San Diego Padres Prop Pick: Can Dylan Cease Dominate D-backs at Petco Park?
The Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres meet for game three of their series at Petco Park in San Diego tonight. This is a rubber match to decide the series tonight after the Padres took game one and the Diamondbacks rallied in extra innings last night to even the series. While games before the All-Star break still feel insignificant, the Padres and Diamondbacks are neck and neck in the NL West standings and each of these head-to-head games may have big implications when it comes to the end of the season. What should we expect in tonight’s game from these two?

Arizona Diamondbacks vs. San Diego Padres Prediction
The Padres need a big performance from their starting pitcher tonight, and they have the right guy on the mound to do so. The Padres will send out Dylan Cease, who is 7–7 on the year with a 4.24 ERA and 130 strikeouts in 102 innings pitched. Cease is fourth in baseball right now in strikeouts, averaging 1.27 strikeouts per inning this year. Tonight, his strikeouts line is set at 6.5 against the Diamondbacks.
Dylan has only faced the Diamondbacks twice in his career. The first was earlier this season, as he went 6.2 innings with just one earned run allowed and eight total strikeouts. In his only other start against the Diamondbacks, he went eight innings with eight strikeouts. While this line seems to be set lower because the Diamondbacks are not a team that strikes out often, they’re facing one of the best painters in baseball who has struck them out eight times in both of his career appearances against them.
Cease has also been a much more dominant pitcher at home this year. He has a 3.66 ERA at home with 62 strikeouts in 46.2 innings, while he has a 4.72 ERA on the road with 68 strikeouts in 55.1 innings. His strikeout rate, opponent, batting average, and ERA are all better at home. Cease has hit 7+ strikeouts in five straight starts at home this year and is 6–2 on the over at home this year overall. I think he hits seven strikeouts tonight once again against the Diamondbacks.
