The Yankees will send out Luis Gil first. Gil was one of the hottest pitchers in May, sporting a 0.7 ERA in the month. He also had a good start to June before imploding over his last few starts. However, his last good outing was against the Red Sox, as he went five innings with just one earned run on the road at Fenway back on June 14. He does not have too much action against the Red Sox in his career, but he has looked very good against them in the small sample size.
On the other side, Kutter Crawford will get the ball first for the Red Sox. Crawford has been one of the most consistent pitchers for the Red Sox this season, posting a 3.47 ERA and 1.10 whip. Crawford has now posted four straight quality starts for the Red Sox, as they have gone 2–2 in those four. One of those quality starts against the Yankees back on June 16, when he went six innings with three earned runs against them. Crawford has dominated the Yankees in his career, as they have hit just .132 against him with just four walks in 53 at-bats.
