Just because Arizona lost their last two games doesn’t mean they haven’t been playing solid baseball. The Diamondbacks have played much better of late, and you can tell the team that made a run to the World Series last year is starting to heat up. Although most would be surprised to see the Braves as short favorites on Wednesday night against a struggling right hander, I’m willing to bet this is a closer matchup than we think…
Slade Cecconi hasn’t pitched well for the Diamondbacks this season, but he won’t be the only struggling starting pitcher in this game. Charlie Morton has given up four or more runs in five of his last nine outings. The crafty veteran simply hasn’t been good over the last two months or so, driving his ERA up to nearly a 4.00. Facing an Arizona team hungry to avenge consecutive losses in this series, I wouldn’t want a ticket backing Charlie Morton right now.
Considering Arizona’s starting pitcher’s ERA is even worse than Morton’s, and the fact that Atlanta has ripped off four wins in a row, you’d expect the Braves to be getting more line respect on Wednesday. Arizona looks like one of the nastiest plays on the MLB slate, and with less than 25% of the bets (on VSiN) backing them we’ve seen line movement towards them. This is a great sign for Arizona backers, as sharp action is clearly moving this line closer to a Pick ‘Em.
Fade the Braves, an offensive I still need to see more consistency out of, and back the Diamondbacks who have lost the first two games of this series. I want to buy stock in Arizona before we hit the All Star Break, as this team desperately tries to get back to .500.
