ANALYSIS

Best Bets Today: Friday's MLB Parlay from Calling Our Shot

Welcome to the daily parlay, brought to you by Calling Our Shot. Yesterday, we lost thanks to a disaster of a 6th Inning from Luis Severino. Today, we look to make that back and then some.

FRIDAY'S MLB PARLAY

LEG 1: Yankees and Red Sox Both Teams to Score 1+ Runs in the First 5 Innings

Our first leg of the Parlay: Both Teams to Score 1+ Runs in the First 5 Innings of the Yankees & Red Sox Game! This might be a weird market, but you can find it on BetMGM and DraftKings. I see sneaky value here.

We like runs early in this game. There’s a reason the full game total is set to 10. Each of the starting pitchers in this game have shown the ability to give up runs lately.

Let’s talk about Brayan Bello starting for the Red Sox first. When Bello faced the Yankees in June, he gave up four earned runs, all in the first 5 innings. He is struggling to miss bats and limit sharp contact, and has allowed 3+ ER in each of his last three starts. On the other side is Nestor Cortes Jr. Cortes pitched well against the Red Sox in the first matchup but he’s entering this game in terrible form with six and five earned runs in his last two starts. On the season, Cortes has a 6.04 ERA on the road. This is a spot where we have to fade each starter and get one run by each team through the first five innings.

LEG 2: FRAMBER VALDEZ (HOU) UNDER 2.5 EARNED RUNS

Our second leg of the Parlay: Framber Valdez UNDER 2.5 Earned Runs. This nearly made my straight bets but at -150, that was a tad too high for me to want to take. I really like Valdez though tonight vs. the Dodgers.

Valdez’s ERA at home drops by 0.50 so we like to see that. He’s also been very tough on some hitters in this Dodgers lineup, most notably, Shohei Ohtani, who is 4-for-34 off Valdez. LAD is batting only .208 vs LHP over the last two weeks, and are 23rd in the MLB in OPS and wRC+ vs. Lefties recently. The last five lefties to face the Dodgers all went under 2.5 Earned Runs, and that included Dallas Keuchel. I love this spot for Valdez to cook. He can be inefficient some days, which works to our advantage with a under 2.5 ER instead of an outs prop.
