The San Diego Padres head east as they take on the Orioles in a three game weekend series from Camden Yards. The Orioles are just barely holding onto first place in the AL East with a record of 61–41, two games ahead of the Yankees.
Meanwhile, the Padres are trying to catch up to the Dodgers, currently sitting in second place in the NL West with the record of 55–50, 7.5 games behind the Dodgers. The Padres are red right now and will look to continue their five-game winning streak against Grayson Rodriguez of the Orioles tonight.

Grayson Rodriguez will take the mound first tonight. Rodriguez has a 3.83 ERA this season in 18 starts, sporting 120 strikeouts in 105.2 innings, which is 25th in baseball. Rodriguez has been dominating teams at home, where he has a 3.14 ERA. Rodriguez has been in dominant form lately, but he has his hands full tonight against a Padres team that has caught fire and has also been performing very well against right-handed pitching. The Padres have the single lowest strikeout rate against right-handed pitching over the last two weeks, as they have struck out at just a 14.9% clip. The Padres have never been a team that strikes out very much to begin with, but they have been even more locked in lately.
Rodriguez’s strikeout line is set at just 5.5 tonight, which seems very low for a pitcher who has had seven or more strikeouts in his last four outings. However, the line is this low for a reason. A closer look at Rodriguez’s splits shows he actually has a higher strikeout rate against left-handed batters.
