The player I’m targeting in this game is Tigers' center fielder Matt Vierling. Vierling has gone back and forth between third base and center field this season, but tonight he will be in the outfield. Vierling usually hits lead-off for the Tigers and will be doing so tonight, as he has a .256 batting average on the season.
Over the last 15 days, Verling is hitting .316. He has been one of the most consistent hitters for the Tigers this season, and he has also seen Guardians pitcher Tanner Bibee excellently in his career. In just six at-bats against Bibee, Vierling has two home runs. Vierling has been seeing right-handed pitching well as of late, as he has nine extra-base hits in his last 67 at-bats over the last 30 days against right-handed pitchers. On top of this, Tanner Bibee has really been struggling to get left-handed hitters out.
Right-handed hitters are hitting just .172 off Bibee this season, while left-handed hitters are hitting .255. Bibee has given up 32 extra-base hits to lefties and just 13 to righties this year.
