Texas Rangers vs. St. Louis Cardinals Prediction
Max Scherzer looked sharp against the White Sox last week, racking up 9 strikeouts in a vintage performance. Until another injury pops up for the 40 year old veteran, I want to continue backing the right-hander in solid matchups. Scherzer owns a 2.50 ERA in his career against the Cardinals, and I’m willing to bet that he follows up last week’s gem with another masterclass on Tuesday.
Lance Lynn, much like Scherzer, is coming off a great outing. He held the Pirates scoreless through five innings of work. If Lynn was going to follow up that gem with another one, wouldn’t you think the odds in this game would favor the Cardinals? They have a better record than the Rangers, are the home team and Lynn has looked sharp in three of his last four outings…
The Rangers are actually catching some steam on the road in this spot. Their splits (on VSiN) look sharp, with some bigger bets being placed on both their moneyline and run line. Typically bigger bets are sharper, and we want to be on the side of sharp steam. Let’s back Scherzer and the Rangers, who should bring some confidence from last night’s win.
Lance Lynn has been solid of late, but his opponents haven’t been solid offenses. He’s faced the pirates, Cubs, Nationals, Reds and the surprisingly-struggling Braves in his last five outings. I think Lynn’s recent successes have been over-exaggerated, and I wouldn’t be surprised if this potent Rangers lineup knocks him out earlier than usual.
