While Shohei Ohtani is not usually thought of as your normal bag stealer, he has actually been on quite a run of stolen bases. After going six seasons without passing 26 stolen bases, Shohei Ohtani is currently third in baseball with 32 stolen bases this year, with still over 50 games to go.
With Shohei Ohtani not being able to pitch this season, I think he is focused more on the speed of his game as the designated hitter for the Dodgers. He started the season very slowly on the bases, only recording four stolen bases in all of April and then eight in all of May. He really turned a page in July, as he had 12 stolen bags in the month in 25 games. He now already has four stolen bases in just five games in August. He even just stole third the other night, proving that Ohtani has the speed and agility to keep grabbing bags the rest of the year.
