Philadelphia Phillies vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Prediction: Can Trea Turner, Phillies Get Hot Against Dodgers?

The last game on the slate tonight features two of the best teams and baseball squaring off as the Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies close out a three-game series from Dodgers Stadium. Each team has taken a game in the series so far and game three tonight will be a rubber match to decide the series. The Philadelphia Phillies cooled off a bit in July and now sit at 67–46, which is good for second-best in baseball, as they are still 6.5 games ahead in the division. Meanwhile, the Dodgers are creeping up on the Phillies with the fifth-best record in baseball at 66–48. The Dodgers are now just four games ahead of the Diamondbacks and will have to finish out the season strong if they want to win the NL West.

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Prediction

Taking the mound first tonight will be Dodgers pitcher Gavin Stone. Stone has been a pleasant surprise in his technical rookie season as he has pitched with a 3.63 ERA in 20 games started this year. He has really excelled at not giving up hard contact and has only given up 13 home runs in 111 innings this year.

Stone will have the tough task of going up against the Phillies tonight for the second time within a month. Stone pitched in Philadelphia back on July 10th and gave up four earned runs and 4.2 innings in a 4–3 Dodgers loss. The Phillies offense has started to come alive in the series and Stone will have to dial it in as he has really struggled over his last five starts.

In the other dugout, Tyler Phillips will start for the Phillies. Phillips is a rookie who has just five MLB starts under his belt, and he is coming off a pretty horrid start in Seattle. Phillips lasted just 1.2 innings in his last start while giving up eight runs and also allowing three home runs.

Before that start, Phillips had pitched a shut-out complete game against the Guardians. While Phillips has flashed some good stuff, he still looks shaky early on in his MLB career and he will be facing a very potent lineup tonight with one of the best hitters in all of baseball, Shohei Ohtani. This will be a tall task for Phillips tonight against the Dodgers team.

Both of the first two games of the series have gone under, as both of them landed on eight runs. Tonight will probably be the easiest pitching matchup for both teams on their opposing pitchers, which leads me to believe that we should see the highest-scoring game of the series so far tonight. It will be a beautiful night in Los Angeles with the wind blowing slightly out to center field, which will be perfect weather for offense. I think both starting pitchers will get smashed in this game, and we will see this one hit double digits quickly.
