Phillies vs. Guardians Prediction, Betting Pick, Latest MLB Odds for Sunday Night Baseball

The Philadelphia Phillies will battle the Cleveland Guardians in an exciting rubber match of a three-game interleague series.

The Guardians added a 6-0 win on Friday, but the Phillies responded with a 7-1 win on the road yesterday. Now, the series comes down to tonight's game, which will be featured on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball telecast.

Philadelphia has the favorable pitching matchup, which is ultimately why the Phillies are favorites on the road tonight. They'll have Zack Wheeler on the hill. The veteran righty has a 3-1 record with a 3.35 ERA.

Meanwhile, he'll battle Luis L. Ortiz of the Guardians, who has a 2-3 record with a 5.30 ERA.

Ultimately, the Phillies and Guardians are each 23-16 on the season. They're both positioned well to make a playoff run this season. But a series win is still important regardless.

Here are our picks, predictions, and odds for tonight's Sunday Night Baseball matchup between the Philadelphia Phillies vs. Cleveland Guardians.

Phillies vs. Guardians Prediction

It's been another solid season for Zack Wheeler. The right-hander has struck out 33.3% of batters while giving up only 4.5% of walks. He's also thrown 98.5 pitches per start and has allowed only a .282 wOBA to his first 198 batters faced this season.

That said, Wheeler still gave up a .240 ISO and wOBA of .324 to his first 78 righties. Those 78 righties have hit 39.6% of fly balls with only 29.2% of ground balls induced. That's a bit surprising, especially since he held righties to a .069 ISO and wOBA of .191 last season.

Meanwhile, the Guardians' projected lineup has hit a .187 ISO and wOBA of .347 against righties over the last 30 days. Bo Naylor and Daniel Schneemann have been the two hottest hitters agaisnt righties in the lineup. But ultimately, the Guardians have five batters hitting an ISO of at least .162 against righties.

But I should also point out that Cleveland's right-handed batters have combined to hit a .128 ISO against righties. It's unlikely that the Guardians will take advantage of Wheeler's struggles against righties.

Conversely, Luis L. Ortiz has struck out 24.2% of batters. He's also walked 11.5% and has allowed a .159 ISO and wOBA of .318 to his first 165 batters faced. Ortiz has allowed 55.7% of hard contact. He's also given up 26.4% of fly balls, while allowing a 12.3% barrel percentage.

The Phillies' projected lineup against righties is much more consistent. Over the last 30 days, it has hit a .337 wOBA against righties. Plus, Philadelphia's lineup has worked more than 10% of walks while striking out just 19.1% of the time.

Expect the Phillies to give Ortiz a tough time. Let's rock with the Phillies at -176.
