The pitching matchup is another reason to like this play. Tomoyuki Sugano has been noticeably less effective against left-handed hitters, allowing a 4.22 ERA compared to his 4.08 ERA overall. Kurtz should be in position to take advantage, especially considering he’s been even better against right-handed pitching this season, posting a .294 batting average compared to his .285 overall mark.
The game environment may be the biggest edge of all. Oddsmakers have set the total at a massive 14 runs, one of the highest you’ll see all season, signaling expectations for a ton of offense from both teams. More projected runs means more baserunners, more RBI opportunities, and more chances for hitters to cross the plate themselves.
