New York Knicks vs. Atlanta Hawks Prediction

It is perhaps fitting that the end of New York's season could come at the hands of the team who was responsible for the beginning of the end nearly one year ago.

Going into the 2021 NBA Playoffs, not many people were picking the Hawks to upset the Knicks. After all, New York had won all three meetings against their southern foe during the regular season, with Julius Randle averaging 37 points on high efficiency in the three matchups. Atlanta, seemingly, had no answer for New York's MVP candidate.

That's what made what transpired over those five games so shocking. It wasn't just that New York lost - their defense played well enough to win, and they got some solid performances from other key contributors - but that Randle looked like a deer in the headlights. The Hawks confused Randle with their coverage, shading but not doubling, forcing him to take and make tough shots. He couldn't do so, and New York lost in five.

This season, Randle hasn't exactly bounced back against the Hawks - he's averaged 19 points and five assists on 44 percent shooting - but it's been good enough for the Knicks to continue their regular season dominance. New York has now won seven straight regular season games against the Hawks and 11 of their last 13.

Will it matter tonight? The Knicks have a better point differential than Atlanta since the break but are only 5-7 compared to 7-6 for the Hawks. Atlanta is without John Collins and may be missing Bogdan Bogdanovic, but they still have enough to win this. You'd tend to favor New York's opponent in what should be a close game, as they have the worst clutch new rating in basketball, but the Hawks are the fourth-worst such team, even with Trae Young.

The Knicks will be put out of their misery soon enough, but it won't be tonight. Take the points at home.

Milwaukee Bucks vs. Chicago Bulls Prediction

Maybe, finally, the Bucks are waking up.

That's what you might have thought before their last game against Minnesota, as Milwaukee had won eight of nine while covering seven of those contests. And then, as has been the case for the Bucks all season, they come out with a dud against the scorching Wolves, although that loss needs to be taken with a very large grain of salt in the form of Giannis Antetokounmpo, who didn't play in the game.

He's listed as probable for this one, but his running mate Khris Middleton is out with a wrist injury. It shouldn't matter against the Bulls in their current state. Chicago is 4-8 since the break with a negative 5.6 net rating that ranks 23rd in the league in that time. They have also lost six of seven on the road outright and are 0-7 against the spread away from home since All-Star weekend.

This game matters to Milwaukee, who is in a dogfight with Philly and Boston for spots two through four in the East standings. They know they can win anywhere, but it's always nice to have a Game 7 at home if you can. Give the points at home tonight.
