Boston Celtics vs Milwaukee Bucks Picks and Prediction: Greek Freak Returns, but JB's Illness Reshuffles a Wild Monday Night Spread

The Boston Celtics (40-20) travel to Fiserv Forum to face the Milwaukee Bucks (26-33) on Monday, March 2, tipping off at 7:30 PM ET, with Jaylen Brown ruled out due to illness and Neemias Queta resting on the second night of a back-to-back, all while Milwaukee gets Giannis Antetokounmpo back from a five-week calf absence on a minutes restriction. The line moved from Boston -7.5 all the way to -2 after both injury developments confirmed, and the spread is now a genuine coin flip on paper. Boston is also playing their fifth game in seven nights, which is a real concern for a team that relies heavily on perimeter athleticism. The Bucks come in off a 120-97 blowout loss to the Chicago Bulls on Sunday, which is a tough look for a team that was supposed to be building momentum. Two depleted rosters, one genuinely weird line, and one of the bigger injury storylines of the week. This one is worth your attention.

Boston Celtics vs Milwaukee Bucks Picks and Prediction: Greek Freak Returns, but JB's Illness Reshuffles a Wild Monday Night Spread

Celtics vs. Bucks Recent Performance

Boston has gone 11-2 over their last 13 games and is 40-20, sitting second in the Eastern Conference behind Detroit. The Celtics have built that run without Jayson Tatum, who remains out with an Achilles tear from the playoffs. Boston posted a 121 offensive rating over their last five games, with a 105 defensive rating in that same span. Those are historically elite numbers for a five-game window, which is exactly why the line opened at -7.5 before the Brown news dropped. They went 20-11 both SU and ATS away from home this season, 3-1 SU in their most recent four-game road trip, and 6-1 SU and ATS over their last seven contests. The road consistency is real. The question is whether they can maintain it short-handed and gassed.

Milwaukee went 8-4 over their last 12 games with Giannis sidelined, but the last two games told a different story: losses by a combined 52 points, including Sunday's 23-point beatdown at the hands of the Bulls. Kevin Porter Jr. has hit just 8-of-28 from the floor over those two games, averaging 10.5 points in that stretch after putting up 17.8 for the season. The Bucks rank 23rd in net rating at -3.7 on the year. When the offense goes cold, there is nothing underneath it.

Celtics vs. Bucks Head to Head

These teams have met twice this season, with the home team winning both. Milwaukee took the December 11 matchup 116-101, then Boston returned the favor 107-79 on February 1. The December game featured 31 points from Kyle Kuzma and a triple-double from Porter Jr., while the February rematch had Jaylen Brown going for 30 and 13 alongside 27 points from Anfernee Simons off the bench.

The under has gone 6-0 in the last six head-to-head meetings between these teams. That is a meaningful sample for total bettors. The previous total for their last meeting was already the lowest set in this matchup in multiple years, and Monday's number is even lower. Both teams fatigued, both rosters thinner than normal. The under narrative has legs here if the market priced the total correctly.

Celtics vs. Bucks Team News

Brown is out with an illness, and Queta draws a rest night after putting up 27 points and 17 rebounds in Sunday's win over Philadelphia. Brown has been the engine of everything Boston does offensively this season, averaging 29 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 5 assists per game while making a legitimate MVP case. His absence does not just cost Boston points: it changes how every defensive scheme around them works. Ron Harper Jr. is expected to step into the starting lineup, as he has done both times Brown sat earlier this season. Derrick White slides into the primary scoring role, averaging 17.1 points, 5.7 assists, and 4.5 boards on the year. Nikola Vucevic, averaging 16.1 points and 8.9 rebounds since being acquired at the deadline, figures to start with Queta sidelined, which gives Boston a legitimate interior presence. Payton Pritchard chips in 17 points and 5.4 assists per game. This is still a functional lineup. It is just no longer a punishing one.

Giannis Antetokounmpo is off Milwaukee's injury report and expected to play after missing since January 27 with a right calf strain. He will be on a minutes restriction. Giannis averages 28 points, 10 rebounds, and 5.6 assists over 30 games this season, and the Bucks are 15-15 with him versus 11-18 without him. That split matters, though it is worth noting he is walking into his first game action in five-plus weeks on zero rhythm, on the second night of a back-to-back, after his team just got demolished by Chicago. Taurean Prince remains out with a neck injury. Ryan Rollins (17 points, 5.4 assists per game), Bobby Portis (13.3 points, 45.1% from three), and Kyle Kuzma (12.9 points) round out a Bucks supporting cast built to shoot and hope the Greek Freak handles the rest.

Prediction: Celtics 111, Bucks 105

Boston wins this one despite the chaos. Derrick White steps up for 24 or 25 points in his first real night as the alpha, Pritchard keeps the offense clicking, and Vucevic exploits a Milwaukee frontcourt that ranks 27th in rebounding. Giannis makes his return pop in the first half, gets his line on a minutes restriction, and reminds everyone he is still elite, but a rusty first game in five weeks against a disciplined Boston defense is not the spot to cover a spread. Porter Jr. shoots his way back into mediocrity, Rollins stays hot, and Kuzma hits a couple threes to keep it tighter than the talent gap suggests. The Celtics win without Brown. They are just too well-coached and too consistent as a road team to collapse in a two-point spot.

Best Bet: Celtics -2 (-108) Click here to get the best odds at FanDuel Sportsbook

The line moved five-plus points because of two injury developments: Giannis returning and Brown sitting. Both shifts deserve respect, and at -2 the market is essentially calling this a coin flip. It is not. The Celtics carry a +8.3 net rating, second-best in the NBA, while Milwaukee checks in at -3.7, 23rd in the league. That gap does not disappear because Brown has a cold and Giannis is back on a restriction after 40 days off. Boston is 6-1 ATS in their last seven and 5-1 ATS in their last six road games. The Bucks just got beaten by 23 points by the Chicago Bulls, a team sitting near the bottom of the Eastern Conference. Giannis on a minutes restriction in game one back, facing White, Pritchard, and a Vucevic pick-and-roll that Boston has been running to death, is not an automatic Milwaukee cover. Get the Celtics -2 before the final injury confirmations push this number back toward three.
