Minnesota vs. Michigan State Prediction: Do Tyson Walker, Spartans Have the Edge Against Golden Gophers?

The 12-5 Minnesota Golden Gophers head into East Lansing, Michigan, to take on Tom Izzo and the 10-7 Spartans tonight. This Big Ten matchup will be a big game for the conference as both teams could be tied with three wins after tonight.

Minnesota vs. Michigan State Prediction

Minnesota has been disappointing in their last two games as they ended their seven game win streak losing to Indiana and Iowa in their past two games. This seems to be a common theme with the Golden Gophers, as normally they start off the season strong, and the wheels fall off the wagon as soon as conference play comes around.

There are some question marks for Minnesota tonight as well. Two impactful players are questionable for tonight's matchup as forward Pharrel Payne and guard Elijah Hawkins are questionable for tonight's game. Hawkins runs this team, and Payne is a solid player as well, and even if they play, do not expect them to play 100% tonight. Hawkins is one of the best, if not the best player on this team, as he is the spark on both ends of the floor for Minnesota. If Hawkins cannot go tonight, this one could be a blowout.

As for the Spartans, they have been a little underwhelming thus far in Big Ten play. They are 2-4 in conference play with wins against Penn State and Rutgers, yet losing games to teams like Wisconsin, Nebraska Northwestern, and Illinois. This is a perfect game for Tom Izzo and Michigan State to get the wheels back on the track and ride some momentum into the end of January and into the rest of the season.

Senior guard Tyson Walker has been astonishing thus far, and if Elijah Hawkins cannot play tonight, Walker will have a field day against this Gopher squad. Walker has been shooting lights out this year, shooting 48.2% from the field and 39.3% behind the arc. Expect him to have a monster night tonight.

Tom Izzo has had three full days to prepare for this game, as this Spartans team will come out hot and ready in the Breslin Center. Students and alumni will be a big factor as Michigan State defends their home-court very well with a 9-2 record this season. I fully expect this to be a slow tempo game tonight, yet Michigan State capitalizing on their opportunities, especially behind the 3-point line which will allow the Spartan fans to get loud and be a big momentum booster. With all that being said, I think the Spartans win by 15+ tonight.
