Texas vs. South Carolina Women's Final Four Prediction: Will South Carolina Earn Another Championship Trip?

South Carolina is looking for their second-straight Women's NCAA Title. But to get the opportunity to compete for it, they have to go through the Texas' tremendous defense. Jason Radowitz breaks down the game and gives his thoughts on the outcome in his Texas Longhorns vs. South Carolina Gamecocks NCAA Women's Final Four Prediction article.

Texas vs. South Carolina Women's Final Four Prediction: Will South Carolina Earn Another Championship Trip?

This is no ordinary feat. However, the South Carolina Gamecocks are on a quest for a second consecutive National Championship, and they will face the Texas Longhorns in the Final Four tonight. The UConn Men's basketball program earned two consecutive championships in the 2023-2024 seasons. Now, South Carolina will look to replicate on the women's side. With Dawn Staley as head coach, the South Carolina Gamecocks have won the NCAA Tournament in three seasons. However, Staley's Gamecocks have yet to win back-to-back tournaments. South Carolina typically dominates opponents. However, the Gamecocks haven't dominated since the Sweet 16. They added a four-point win over Maryland in the Sweet 16 and another four-point win against Duke in the Elite Eight. Despite their 34-3 record, the Gamecocks are certainly beatable. Meanwhile, Texas has looked tremendous defensively. The Longhorns have held their last four opponents to no more than 61 points and just gave up 47 points to TCU in the Elite Eight. That said, Texas couldn't even get to 50 themselves in the SEC Tournament's Final against South Carolina, losing 64-45. Will this Final Four game be any closer?

Texas vs. South Carolina Prediction

The Texas Longhorns have been tremendous all year. Yet, two of Texas's three losses this season came against South Carolina. Still, the Longhorns were able to add a win over the Gamecocks on their home floor. On January 2, South Carolina got ahead early and never looked back against the Longhorns. The Gamecocks earned a 67-50 win at home. While South Carolina shot above 50% from the field, Texas hit only 27.8% and hit just one of five three-point attempts in the entire game. On February 9, Texas followed the same game plan. The Longhorns missed all four three-point attempts but shot better from inside the arc. They shot 44.1% from the field and held South Carolina to 36.8%. In the third head-to-head matchup, South Carolina held Texas to 29.6% from the field. Again, Texas nailed only one three against the Gamecocks on eight attempts. In three games, Texas added just two three-pointers against South Carolina. That's likely not a good recipe for success. Texas has to be locked in defensively to stay within reach. Clearly, Texas can't come back from a major deficit without hitting some threes. Ultimately, the first team to 60 points probably wins this game. Therefore, let's back the Under 125.5 at -115 as the best bet.
