They pressure the ball as well as anyone in the country, force turnovers at an absurd rate, and have zero weak links in their starting five. Joshua Jefferson has been phenomenal, the guard play is physical and disciplined, and the shooting across the roster is elite.

Baylor does not need to be the better team to cash this ticket. It simply needs to hang around in a home game where its strengths can shorten the margin. Scott Drew’s offense is still one of the most efficient units in the country, and it matches up better than most against Iowa State’s style. The Bears shoot it well from the perimeter, finish efficiently inside, and most importantly create extra possessions by crashing the offensive glass. Baylor rebounding on over forty percent of its missed shots is not a small edge against a defense that thrives on forcing one and done trips.
Iowa State’s pressure defense is suffocating, but it also invites physical games. Baylor has the athletes and strength to absorb that contact and still score. Cameron Carr is the type of scorer who can beat great defense when shots break down, and Tounde Yessoufou’s physicality forces defenders to guard him honestly even if the shooting numbers are not elite. Baylor does not need to win the turnover battle outright, it just needs to limit the damage and convert second chances.
The concerns with Baylor are real. The defense is far from elite, and depth could be tested late if the game turns into a grind. But those same flaws are already baked into the line. Iowa State is being priced closer to a neutral court mismatch than a true road conference game in Waco.
Iowa State has earned respect, but this is still a Big 12 road environment against an offense capable of scoring in bunches and keeping the game tight. Asking the Cyclones to separate by multiple possessions against a team this efficient offensively is a tall task.
This sets up as a competitive game deep into the second half, which makes the points far more valuable than picking a side outright.
