UConn vs. Michigan Prediction
But that level of shooting is extremely difficult to sustain, especially against a defense like UConn.
The Huskies are elite on that end of the floor, ranking inside the top 10 in defensive efficiency while holding opponents to just 45% inside the arc and around 30% from three. They are disciplined, physical, and force teams to work deep into possessions for quality looks.
That alone is enough to slow Michigan down.
On the other side, Michigan brings one of the best interior defenses in the country. The Wolverines are second nationally in 2 point defense and do an excellent job protecting the rim with Aday Mara anchoring the paint. That is a major problem for a UConn offense that has relied heavily on Tarris Reed Jr to generate points inside throughout this tournament.
With Mara’s size and presence, those easy interior looks will be much harder to come by.
Both teams also excel in preparation and defensive execution early in games. Michigan has suffocated opponents in first halves, while UConn has been one of the best first half defensive teams all season. That speaks to how well coached and organized these teams are on that end.
This game is likely to be dictated in the half court. UConn prefers a slower tempo, and while Michigan can play faster, this matchup should naturally slow down due to the physicality, size, and defensive discipline on both sides.
Another key factor is efficiency regression. Michigan’s recent three point shooting surge is unlikely to continue at the same level, especially against a defense designed to contest and limit perimeter looks. If those shots normalize, scoring becomes much more difficult.
At the same time, UConn is not built to push pace or run up scores. They are comfortable grinding out possessions, playing through sets, and winning with defense.

This sets up as a game where both teams are forced into tougher shots, longer possessions, and fewer easy scoring opportunities.
With two elite defenses, strong coaching, and a natural slowdown in tempo, this game profiles as a lower scoring battle where every possession matters.
