UFC 284 Parlay: Building Around Jimmy Cruite, Yair Rodriguez, Loma Lookboonmee

UFC 284 is shaping up to be a stacked card with some big names and rising prospects. As usual, because there are no spreads in UFC betting, there are some inflated moneylines that are perfect for combining in a parlay to get the most value out of the card. I have cooked up a three-leg parlay on three favorites that comes out to plus odds. Let's dive in.

Leg One: Jimmy Crute ML

Alonzo Menifield has lethal power, and he can rip anyone's head off, but aside from power, I don't see his path to victory. Crute is a more technical striker and has power himself, and his chin has held up better than Menifields. A quick look at Crutes last two fights shows he has two straight stoppage losses, but one was a fluke nerve damage doctor's stoppage, and the other was a loss to the current champion, Jamahal Hill.

Crute is more calculated on the feet, and I believe he can stay away from Menifields power. On the ground, the advantage is WAY in favor of Crute. Crute can submit you, or just rain down ground and pound. He has excellent wrestling, and he is smooth in his takedown attempts. I expect Crute to get this fight to the ground and keep it there. He averages 4.87 takedowns per fight, and this is a fight Menifield will just be fighting to keep on the feet. I don't think he will be able to.

Leg Two: Yair Rodriguez ML

This is a fight for the interim featherweight title, with the winner facing Volkanovski next. I already did an entire article on Rodriguez alone, which you can find by clicking on my profile at the top of this page. However, I also like Rodriguez as a parlay piece.

Emmett has power, don't get me wrong, but neither man is easy to stop in the octagon. Rodriguez has lost once in the UFC by stoppage, which was to Frankie Edgar back in 2017. Rodriguez has been on a tear since then, taking down top featherweight fighters Chan Sung Jung and Brian Ortega in the process. The Ortega fight was called after Ortega's shoulder popped out, but Rodriguez landed some nice shots on Ortega's chin, including a front kick that connected midway through round one. Rodriguez's striking game has come a long way since he joined the UFC, and I can confidently say he is one of the best leg kickers in the UFC. He has lethal kicks from every angle, and I expect the leg kicks to be the difference in this fight.

Leg Three: Loma Lookboonmee ML

This matchmaking is a headscratcher for me. I would honestly not disagree with the odds if Lookboonmee was -500. Not only is she the more active striker, but she has better cardio, better wrestling, better grappling, and more experience.

I think the best way to look at this fight is to look at Elise Reed's loss to Sam Hughes. Hughes dominated Reed and took her to the mat before ending the fight with elbows from the mount in the third. I could see this fight going similarly. Lookboonmee will be the stronger fighter in the matchup, proven by her decision win over Sam Hughes where she out-wrestled the strong Hughes. Hughes dominated Reed, and Lookboonmee beat Hughes. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see where this fight is going.

It's not a great idea to blindly look at common opponents in UFC fights, but in this case, I think it is warranted based on fight style. Reed's only chance to win this fight is to knock Lookboonmee out, because if she doesn't, she will be dominated on the ground. Lookboonmee has yet to be knocked out and has fought harder hitters than Reed, so I'm going with Loma here.
