UFC 288 Parlay Picks

Leg One: Drew Dober by KO/TKO @ -110

Drew Dober enters this fight on an impressive three-fight win streak with wins over Terrance McKinney, Rafael Alves, and Bobby Green, with all three wins coming by way of knockout. All three displayed elite development of Dober's striking, as his MCkinney win came by a knee to ground and pound, his win over Alves came by a left hook the body, and his win over Green came by a vicious left hook to the chin that flatlined Bobby Green in a comeback win. Dober has been a sneaky force at lightweight for years now, as he entered the UFC back in 2014 and is now 12-6 in the promotion. He is now reaching his peak, as he is in the best form of his career, and has strung together three impressive victories that have displayed his power. All six of Dober's last six wins have now come by knockout.

Unfortunately for Matt Frevola, this fight does not play into his style. By that, I mean Dober is not an easy guy to knock out. Dober physically has one of the biggest chins I have ever seen, and that size on his chin must mean it is made out of granite because Dober has yet to be knocked out in nearly 20 UFC appearances. On the flip side, two of Frevola's three losses in the octagon have been by brutal knockout, both in the first round. Frevola and Dober both love to bring the action and if these two are swinging, Frevola will go down before Dober. I am backing Dober to continue his run of knockouts and crack the top-10 rankings with a win here at UFC 288.

Leg Two: Khaos Williams by KO/TKO @ -120

This fight makes no sense to me, and I'm wondering why the matchmakers even made it. Maybe they want to give Williams a layup after a tough split-decision loss? I'm not sure, but this one has me scratching my head. Khaos Williams is an impressive prospect that has started his UFC career 4-2, with his losses coming to Randy Brown and Michel Pereira. He has shown impressive striking that has earned him three knockout wins in six appearances, and I see this fight going the same way.

Rolando Bedoya has gone on a can-crushing tour, earning a 14-1 record to make it to the UFC. Bedoya is well-rounded, but his striking will not be on the same level as Williams in this fight. Bedoya is being fed to a killer in his UFC debut, and he is rightfully the second-largest underdog on the card. Bedoya has the skills to turn into a high-level UFC fighter, but this is not a good matchup for his debut. His adrenaline will be pumping for the first few minutes, and then he will get caught by something big from Williams. Williams is just a few steps ahead at this point in his career and has fought opponents levels higher than Bedoya for the past few years. I am backing Williams to bounce back and get a knockout at UFC 288.

Leg Three: Parker Porter/Braxton Smith Doesn't Start Round 3 @ -320

I'm honestly not even sure why Parker Porter is in the UFC. He is the classic maximum-weight heavyweight that has no striking defense and seems to go down on anything that lands clean. That was the case in his last fight, as Tafa landed just a few strikes before Porter tumbled to the ground unconscious. In six UFC fights, Porter has been finished in the first round. On the other side, Braxton Smith hits hard. Very hard. He is 5-1 with five first-round knockouts, and he was brought to the UFC specifically because he has devastating power and is also accurate. He has not needed more than half a round to finish any of his five wins, and he has actually looked more in shape than he did very early in his pro career from the clips I watched. He has also sharpened up his strikes, but his defense does leave him a bit wide open. See what I'm getting at for this fight?

I actually like Braxon Smith to get the upset here, but with his defense still developing, Porter could land a haymaker early here. One thing is for sure, and that is both men will be swinging for the fences here. Porter was just dropped a minute into his fight against Tafa, and I could see this fight going the exact same way. His chin just does not seem UFC-level. Smith hits very hard and was scouted on his sharp striking alone. I would be shocked if this fight made it to round two.
