ANALYSIS

LSU vs. Florida State Prediction, Pick, Odds: Can LSU, Jayden Daniels Get Revenge on FSU?

The LSU Tigers lost their first game of last year's season against Florida State on a blocked extra point.

At that moment, fans around the nation laughed at Brian Kelly for deciding to come to LSU.

The Tigers only turned things around, won the SEC East, and played in the SEC Championship game afterward.

The Tigers finished 10-4 and 6-3 in the SEC under Kelly in his first season. Kelly is one of the most consistent head coaches in the business. So, of course, he won double-digits in his first season with LSU, which included a home win against Alabama.

But while LSU improved since that first game against Florida State, so did the Seminoles. Florida State finished 10-3 last season and went 5-3 in the ACC. Under Mike Norvell, it seems like all of the pieces are in place to compete for an ACC Championship and College Football Playoff berth.

For LSU and Florida State, this top-ten matchup is crucial for both teams this season.

LSU Tigers vs. Florida State Seminoles Prediction

The LSU Tigers have a Heisman candidate at quarterback in Jayden Daniels.

Daniels threw for over 2,900 yards and added 17 passing touchdowns with just three interceptions. At times, Daniels might've been too careful with the ball. However, reports have stated that Daniels has grown more comfortable in the offense and throws balls in tighter windows.

Daniels also ran for 885 yards on 186 carries, averaging nearly five yards per rush. He added 11 more rushing touchdowns.

He's not the betting favorite for the Heisman. That's Caleb Williams of USC. But he's right next to Williams on these sportsbooks.

The quarterback leader has a lot of playmakers on his side. The run game has four or five backs they're comfortable using anytime. LSU added Logan Diggs from Notre Dame and still has Josh Williams, Noah Cain, Armony Goodwin, and John Emery Jr.

Kayshon Boutte is on the Patriots. But he never made a real impact last year anyway at receiver. It was mainly Malik Nabers, who added 72 catches for over 1,000 yards last season. He, along with Kyren Lacy, Brian Thomas, and Mason Taylor, should all produce at a high level offensively.

The offensive line will start five players on the team last year. The cohesion is there.

On the other hand, Florida State will have Jordan Travis for another season. Travis threw for over 3,200 yards and added 24 touchdowns with just five interceptions. Travis truly made a name for himself last year.

He started his career at Louisville and has played college football since 2018. He's never had a year with more than 1,539 yards. Last year, he added over 3,000 yards and 417 more on the ground.

They'll have Trey Benson at running back. He'll be terrific with the other backs for Florida State despite losing Treshaun Ward to Kansas State.

Travis will find Johnny Wilson a lot in this offense. He'll also have Jaheim Bell, who added 58 catches and seven touchdowns last season with Michigan State.

Conversely, the Seminoles didn't come away with many turnovers on defense. They'll have Jared Verse back, which will be huge for the defense. He led the team with nine sacks and 17 tackles for a loss. However, the linebacker group has some weaknesses that LSU can attack.

LSU won't have Maason Smith defenisvely. But the defensive front is one of the best in the nation. Mekhi Wingo and Jordan Jefferson, from West Virginia, should make an immediate impact.

The Tigers will also allow Harold Perkins to play more linebacker this season. The freshman played more of a hybrid role for the team last season. He'll continue to shine and make plays as he learns more about the defense.

The LSU secondary is the biggest concern, but as long as the pass rush does its thing, the defense will be fine.

Take LSU -2.5.
