This might be the best weekday CFB game we’ve had this season. Don’t be fooled by Marshall’s recent two losses, these are two of the best teams in the Sun Belt. This game is going to be close, and probably will come down to the last possession. Instead of targeting a side, I’ve got my eyes on the total…

James Madison vs. Marshall Prediction
Marshall is better than their record. They almost beat NC State two weeks ago, who might not be great this season but are still an ACC team. James Madison on the other hand, has yet to lose this season. I wouldn’t be shocked if they fall to Marshall on the road tonight, a sneaky-tough place to play. I like the under better though, with the total already three points lower than the opening line. This is an interesting move, considering less than 25% of bets and handle are currently backing the under (on DraftKings).
I thought this total was already too high, considering James Madison’s only defensive strength should counteract Marshall’s rushing attack. The Dukes have one of the worst-rated secondaries in the nation, but their defensive line is solid. They can stop the run, and that is exactly what Marshall is going to try to establish early in this game.
Rasheed Ali is one of the best running backs in the nation, but if the Herd tries to force the run too much, they might struggle to move the ball against the Dukes’ DL. If Marshall wants to win this game, they are going to have to rely heavily on Cam Fancher, who has been fairly inconsistent in his second season under center.
Don’t sleep on Marshall’s defense either. They’ve allowed the 15th fewest yards per game through the air this season. Their secondary is legit, and should cause problems all night for Jordan McCloud and the Dukes.
Instead of trying to pick a side in this one, bet the under. It’s the sharpest play on the board tonight, with the total down nearly three points from the opener. Fade both of these offenses with bad matchups on primetime tonight.
