Syracuse started this seasons red hot as they won their first four games but have since floundered as they have lost three in row in blowout fashion. Can they get back on track tonight against Virginia Tech? Let’s break it down.

The beginning of the season looked extremely promising for Syracuse as they absolutely dominated Colgate and Western Michigan and then notched an impressive road win against Purdue, but this success was short lived as they were then hammered by UNC and Florida State. The Tar Heels and the Seminoles absolutely demolished the orange, by combined score of 81 to 10 as neither games were close at all.

Syracuse vs. Virginia Tech Prediction
The toughest part of Syracuse’s schedule is over but now they have to play a Virginia Tech team who has been playing much better ball over the past month. The beginning of the season for Virginia Tech looked fairly bleak as they were blown out by Rutgers and and also lost two very winnable games to Purdue and Marshall by a touchdown each.
The Hokies were sitting at 1-3 but have seemed to flip a switch since then as they blew out Wake Forest and PITT and had a valiant effort against Florida State in a loss where they actually covered the game ATS. Part of this recent success is simply the fact that their young sophomore quarterback, Kyron Drones, has gotten more reps and more comfortable in this offense.
Drones has not thrown an interception since September 16th and has thrown five passing touchdowns and rushed for four more during that time span. He has played much better at home this season but I do think he is due for some negative regression against a Syracuse defense that is much better than their metrics may indicate.
Syracuse had to face UNC and Drake Maye, who is undoubtedly going to be a top five pick in this years NFL Draft. He lit up the Orange through the air but Drones is nowhere near the talent of Maye and I do not expect the Hokies to have the same success through the air tonight.
On the other side of the ball, the Virginia Tech defense has really struggled to stop the run. The Hokies are currently ranked 104th in yards allowed per carry (4.8) and 101st in overall rushing yards allowed per game (176). Syracuse is also coming off a bye and had been dealing with numerous injuries and should be back to near full strength for this game.
The strength of the Virginia Tech defense has been in their secondary as they are allowing just 6.3 yards per passing attempt (23rd) but to be frank, have faced a lot of extremely below average quarterbacks. ODU, Purdue, Rutgers, Marshall, PITT, and Wake Forest… none of these teams have lit it up through the air season.
Garrett Schrader should be fully healthy and I expect this Syracuse rushing attack to feast tonight. Much like Florida State did against VT when the Seminoles ran for 288 yards on 8.7 yards per carry. With that being said, I am rolling with Syracuse +3 at -106 for 1.5U as one of my most confident college football play of the day for tonight’s action.
