Army visits Lincoln Financial Field for a 4:00 PM ET kickoff on ESPN as a three-point favorite in the American Conference matchup. The Black Knights enter 1-1 after having Week 3 off, while Temple is 1-2 following a crushing 49-48 overtime defeat at Toledo.
The rest differential immediately stands out. Army has not played since September 12, giving Jeff Monken's staff nearly two weeks to prepare its option offense, while Temple has only six days to recover from an overtime game in which it watched a 14-point lead disappear in the final 65 seconds of regulation.

Army opened with a 59-3 rout of Bryant before losing 28-24 to South Florida in its conference opener. The Black Knights led USF by 10 late in the fourth quarter before allowing two touchdowns in the final five minutes, including the winning score with 19 seconds remaining.
Hellums was extremely efficient in the loss, completing 9 of 10 passes for 91 yards and two touchdowns, while Godspower Nwawuihe rushed for 94 yards. Army finished 7-6 overall and 4-4 in American play last season and remains 12-4 in conference games since joining the league in 2024.
Temple Owls (1-2), (0-0 American)
Temple's record undersells how competitive it has been. The Owls opened with a 38-14 victory over Rhode Island before losing 27-9 to Penn State and then producing 48 points at Toledo. The problem is that the most recent game became a brutal missed opportunity.
Temple led Toledo 42-28 with 1:11 remaining before surrendering two touchdowns and an onside-kick recovery that forced overtime. Samuel Brown rushed for 109 yards and two touchdowns, Ajani Sheppard accounted for 230 total yards and Temple finished with 261 rushing yards while converting 9 of 15 third downs. The Owls went 5-7 overall and 3-5 in American play last season.

Army vs. Temple Line Movement and Betting Splits
DraftKings spread action leans toward Army without becoming overwhelmingly one-sided. The Black Knights are attracting roughly 55% of spread bets and 64% of the handle at -3, giving Army the larger average wager on the point spread.
The moneyline tells the opposite story. Temple has drawn approximately 70% of the money despite receiving only about one-third of the outright-win tickets. The total is heavily tilted toward the Under, which is taking close to 90% of the handle at 48.5.
Army vs. Temple Prediction
The preparation gap is particularly meaningful against Army. Defending the option requires assignment discipline that is difficult to replicate during a normal practice week, and Temple now has fewer preparation days after playing an exhausting overtime game Saturday. Army has had an open week to self-scout and build its plan specifically for this opponent.
Hellums also gives the Black Knights experience at the position that matters most in the system. He completed 90% of his passes against South Florida, which prevents opponents from simply selling out against the quarterback run and interior option game. Army does not need high passing volume, but efficient throws become especially valuable when defenses overcommit numbers to the box.
Temple's rushing performance at Toledo cannot be dismissed. Brown and Sheppard helped the Owls produce 261 yards on the ground, and an offense that can maintain possession is one of the best ways to keep Army from controlling the clock. Temple has now rushed for at least 176 yards in each of its first three games.
The issue is what happens late. Temple had a two-touchdown lead with barely a minute remaining and still lost, while Army experienced its own fourth-quarter collapse against USF. Both teams therefore enter with recent evidence that closing games is a concern, but Army has had substantially more time to correct those mistakes.
Army's style also reduces the number of possessions available for Temple to recover from a stalled series. The Black Knights can put together long drives that drain six, seven or eight minutes, and their 2025 team consistently demonstrated that ability. That becomes particularly valuable when laying only a field goal rather than needing a large margin.
The recent series supports that expectation. Army has beaten Temple four consecutive times, but two of those games were decided by three points or fewer. The Black Knights do not need to dominate Friday. They need to control enough possessions to turn a close fourth quarter into a late one-score separation.
Temple's moneyline handle is a legitimate reason for caution, especially after how productive the Owls looked at Toledo. But the situational advantage favors Army more strongly. The Black Knights are rested, the offense is unusual to prepare for and the spread requires only a modest road victory.

Temple is improved enough to prevent this from becoming the type of runaway Army produced in the 2024 meeting, but the preparation gap is difficult to overlook. The Black Knights have had nearly two weeks to prepare while Temple is coming off an overtime loss that required 33:38 of possession and ended emotionally.
At exactly -3, a field-goal victory at least protects the stake, while a late Army scoring drive can create the needed margin. A 27-20 type of result fits the matchup.
