Northwestern visits Merchants Bank Field at Memorial Stadium for an 8:00 PM ET kickoff on FOX, catching three full touchdowns against No. 5 Indiana. The Wildcats are 2-0 after wins over South Dakota State and Colorado, while the Hoosiers are 3-0 and have outscored their last two opponents 93-0.
Indiana's status as defending national champion explains why this number is enormous, but Northwestern has already looked substantially different from last year's team. Chiles and Kelly have transformed the offensive ceiling, and the Wildcats enter conference play immediately after a 41-7 dismantling of a previously unbeaten Colorado team.

Northwestern opened with a 34-18 victory against South Dakota State before having a week off. The Wildcats then produced their best performance of the young season against Colorado, building a 21-0 halftime lead and cruising to a 41-7 win.
Chiles completed 17 of 22 passes for 241 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for two more scores. Northwestern finished with 423 yards, forced multiple early turnovers and began a season 2-0 for the first time under David Braun. The Wildcats went 7-6 overall and 4-5 in Big Ten play last year.
Indiana Hoosiers (3-0), (0-0 Big Ten)
Indiana has hardly slowed after its perfect 2025 season. The Hoosiers improved to 3-0 last week with a 38-0 victory over Western Kentucky, finishing with 513 yards while holding the Hilltoppers to only 186.
Hoover threw for 273 yards, Turbo Richard rushed for 149 and Charlie Becker produced 127 receiving yards. Indiana has now posted consecutive shutouts for the first time since 1993, while Hoover has thrown 10 touchdown passes through his first three games with the program. The Hoosiers went 16-0 and 9-0 in Big Ten play last season, finishing the year with a national championship victory over Miami.

The 2024 game was more competitive than the final margin suggests. Northwestern cut Indiana's lead to 27-24 with just over 11 minutes remaining before the Hoosiers scored the final 14 points. That older Northwestern team did not have Chiles or Kelly, but the game demonstrates how a competitive contest can still produce late separation if the underdog falls behind schedule.

Northwestern vs. Indiana Line Movement and Betting Splits
Indiana is the overwhelmingly popular side by ticket count. Current DraftKings betting splits have roughly three-quarters of spread bets backing the Hoosiers at -21, leaving only about one-quarter of tickets on Northwestern.
The handle moves in the opposite direction. Northwestern is attracting 57% of the spread money despite only 24% of the wagers, while Indiana has 43% of the handle on 76% of the tickets. The Over is also one of the most heavily backed totals on Friday's board with nearly 90% of the handle.
Northwestern vs. Indiana Prediction
Indiana deserves every bit of respect associated with this spread. The Hoosiers went 16-0 last season, have a proven coaching infrastructure and appear to have transitioned seamlessly from Fernando Mendoza to Hoover. Through three games, Hoover already has 10 touchdown passes, and the offense has complementary rushing production from Richard.
The defense may be even more concerning for Northwestern. Indiana has not allowed a point in eight consecutive quarters and just held Western Kentucky to 186 total yards, including 66 on the ground. Northwestern cannot count on simply handing the ball off and shortening this game without Chiles making difficult throws.
But Chiles changes the handicap considerably. His five-touchdown performance against Colorado showcased both parts of his game, and Kelly's arrival has given Northwestern a creative offensive structure built around a quarterback with significant Power Four experience. The Wildcats no longer look like a team that needs to win 17-14 every week.
Northwestern's defense and takeaway production provide another path to staying within 21. Colorado entered last week 2-0 and was immediately forced into mistakes that helped the Wildcats establish a three-score first-half advantage. Turnovers cannot be projected at the same rate, but Northwestern has shown it can turn defensive disruption into points quickly.
The concern is that Bloomington represents Northwestern's first road game. Indiana has played all three games at home, has not faced significant second-half stress and remains extremely comfortable in the environment. If Northwestern starts slowly, the Hoosiers are capable of reaching a four-touchdown advantage quickly.
Getting the full 21 is therefore important. Northwestern can lose 35-17, 34-20 or 31-14 and still cover. With Chiles' dual-threat ability, the Wildcats have a better chance of producing late offensive answers than the typical three-touchdown underdog.
The betting split also fits that argument. Indiana is drawing the overwhelming majority of tickets, which is understandable after consecutive shutouts, but Northwestern has attracted the larger share of actual spread money. That does not eliminate Indiana's massive talent advantage, but it supports the idea that 21 may be enough cushion for an improved underdog.

Indiana should control more of this game, but Northwestern has shown enough offensive growth to make three touchdowns a substantial number. Chiles gives Kelly a quarterback capable of extending plays and creating explosives, while the Wildcats are entering with confidence after beating Colorado by 34.
Indiana can remain dominant without covering 21. If Northwestern reaches the mid-to-high teens and avoids giving Hoover repeated short fields, something in the 35-17 range is enough to cash the underdog.
