Despite playing to just a 3-13-1 record last season, few teams fought as hard each and every game in 2021-22 as the Detroit Lions. While there are no moral victories in football, it does give the fan base something to be optimistic about as head coach Dan Campbell certainly seems to be turning the franchise around even if just slightly.
Picked by many (including me) to win the NFC East, the Eagles have equal optimism brewing as they head to Detroit for this week one matchup. Is Jalen Hurts finally the guy to right the ship in the City of Brotherly Love?
Let’s take a closer look at this NFC showdown and three selections I think we see get there before the final whistle in Philly.

Philadelphia Eagles vs. Detroit Lions Single Game Parlay Picks
Philadelphia Eagles ML (-190)
Finishing last season 9-8 and sneaking into the playoffs only to get blown out by the Buccaneers, the Eagles like their chances for improvement heading into this season. This offseason, the Eagles added AJ Brown to the weapons around Hurts, who along with second-year wide-out DaVonta Smith are amongst the best WR duos in the league.
For the Lions, success this season will also stop and start with the success of quarterback Jared Goff, who comes in off a season in which he was the definition of mediocre. Throwing 19 touchdowns in 14 starts, Goff also threw eight interceptions. This season, Goff returns with one of the best offensive lines in the league and quality pieces around him, and I think the Lions are improved year over year.
The only reason I don’t think the Eagles run away with this one is the injury in the backfield to Miles Sanders, who as of Thursday, is still dealing with a hamstring injury. Look for the Eagles to pull out a close win in a game I expect to be closer than most.
Anytime Touchdown Scorer - D’Andre Swift (+120)
One of those quality pieces around Goff is Georgia product, D’Andre Swift. Entering this season with over 1,000 all-purpose yards last season before an injury ended it early, Swift is one of the most dynamic players in the league and I think that shows through this season.
With help in the backfield in addition to two elite pass catchers in TJ Hockenson and Amon-Ra St. Brown, I think we see Swift find pay dirt right out of the gates this season. His ability to catch balls out of the backfield as well is amongst the best in this league at the position.
1st Touchdown Scorer - Jalen Hurts (+800)
One of the reasons there is so much optimism in Philly is the diverse skills of QB1 Hurts. While his accuracy was much improved last season, his legs are what can really set this offense apart.
With Lions rookie defensive end Aidan Hutchinson surely on his heels all day, look for Hurts to break one.
Combined odds: +3000 (Bet $100 to win $3000)
