Things are getting weird for the Patriots. Mac Jones injured his ankle last week in the closing seconds of their loss to the Ravens. Initial reports indicated that Jones could be out for multiple weeks due to a high ankle sprain. Some reports even said Jones would consider surgery.
On Thursday, it turns out that Jones is on the practice field with the Patriots, preparing for their game against the Packers. Jones is listed as doubtful. We'll have to keep track of that news.
Meanwhile, the Packers are coming off a boring win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They won 14-12 after stopping the Bucs on a two-point conversion with seconds remaining on the clock. The Packers lost their first game but have won their last two. I'd bet on the Packers to get three straight on Sunday. Here's a same-game parlay for Sunday's game between the New England Patriots vs. Green Bay Packers.
Packers vs. Patriots Same-Game Parlay Picks
Packers -9.5 (-110)
Because oddsmakers don't know the status of Mac Jones, player props are currently off the board. The Packers haven't been good against the run defensively, but they've had an excellent pass rush along with a very solid secondary.
If Jones misses times, it'll be Brian Hoyer taking charge. Hoyer isn't a terrible backup quarterback, but if the Patriots' offensive line isn't on their game, the Packers will make Hoyer and the Patriots pay.
Meanwhile, the Patriots haven't looked good in coverage and continue to have trouble against the run. This could be the game where the Green Bay Packers breakout in the passing game.
Over 39.5 (-110)
I'm not going to bash Hoyer. I think Hoyer can earn a touchdown or two with New England. The Patriots are likely going to stick to the run game. That's where they'll have the most success. The Packers have allowed 113.3 yards per game on the ground this season.
On the other hand, the Packers have only scored 16 points per game. But they've got a great matchup against a Patriots defense that has allowed nearly 24 points per game. The Packers should break out offensively, and if Hoyer and the Patriots can add a couple of scores of their own, we'll get the over.
Over 20.5 First Half (+100)
The Patriots aren't going to throw the ball down the field immediately. But they'll take shots with Brian Hoyer once the running game gets going. Hoyer is a veteran that won't make "rookie" mistakes. Meanwhile, as I continue to say, I like the Packers' offense to find a rhythm against a Patriots defense that hasn't played well since the beginning of the year.
They've looked terrible in coverage, and the Patriots haven't looked any better against the run. It's time for Green Bay to shine on their home field against a depleted Patriots' defense.
