Eagles vs. Giants Prediction
The Giants sadly took down my Vikings in the Wild-Card Round and have earned the chance to travel to Philly, Pennsylvania to take on the Eagles in the Divisional Round. The books don't think the Giants have much of a chance, as they are +8 underdogs at the moment. While I think the Giants cover this game, that is not the focus of this article. Instead, I have lasered my focus to one prop on a certain Eagle who has been instrumental to the offense all season.
Dallas Goedert has been a key piece of the Eagle's offense, even with A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith on the field. In only 12 games played this season due to injury, Goedert has 702 receiving yards, averaging 58.5 yards per game. Although he is not the flashiest receiving option in the offense, he is consistent and reliable, which goes a long way, especially in the playoffs. Goedert has been targeted 69 times in his 12 games and has hauled in 55 of them, which is the highest target-to-catch ratio on the team.
Like I said in the previous paragraph, Goedert is clutch in crunch times, especially in the playoffs. Last year, the Eagles lost in the first round to the Bucs 15-31, but Goedert still had six receptions for 92 yards in that game. In the playoff game before that, in the 2019 season, Goedert had seven receptions for 73 yards in the loss to the Seahawks. Goedert is consistently a go-to look for the Eagles in big games, and I expect that to remain the case against the Giants.
The Giants have the 31st-ranked defense against tight ends, only coming in one spot ahead of the Jaguars for the lowest spot. Last week, we saw T.J. Hockenson go off for 10 receptions and 129 yards, which led the team. That was with Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen on the field, and I suspect a similar box score with the Giants focusing on A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. The Giants have consistently given up big games to tight ends, while their secondary performs better against wideouts.
In the first and only game Goedert played against the Giants this season, he had six receptions for 46 yards, barely missing this line of 52.5 tonight. However, in that game, standout right tackle Lane Johnson was sidelined with an injury, so Goedert had to help cover in the blocking game more than usual. Lane Johnson ranks sixth in his position in the NFL, and they will greatly welcome his comeback, as will Goedert, who will run more routes in this game with Johnson's return. If Goedert had 46 yards and six receptions covering for the backup right tackle against the Giants in Week 18, I expect him to get even more action tonight with more routes. The Giants are giving up an average of 55 yards per game to tight ends, and Goedert is one of the best receiving tight ends in the league.
