Trevor Lawrence is probably going to play tonight. He is a game time decision, but it is expected that he will give it a go during warmups. Either way, Lawrence won’t be at full strength tonight. That is going to be a problem for Jacksonville, who will be facing the fifth-ranked defense in football tonight.
To be fair, the Saints have had a relatively easy schedule up to this point. Their defense has showed up though, and against a banged-up Lawrence, they should have an edge tonight. The Saints have also dominated this series for the better part of the last decade. New Orleans has won the last four meetings against Jacksonville dating back to 2015.
Derek Carr has yet to shine on his new team, but tonight could be his breakout game. The Jags have the 21st-ranked defense in football, presenting a great opportunity for Carr to shine in front of his new home crowd. The Jags pass defense is atrocious. They give up the second-most yards per game, and they’ve played two rookie QBs, a backup QB and Desmond Ridder this season. If Derek Carr can’t slice and dice this defense, maybe he isn’t the guy for the Saints.
The Saints opened up a small favorite before the sharps steamed them up to -2 on most books. Ride with the sharps and back the Saints to win their second game in five weeks. This will be Derek Carr’s breakout game.
