The New York Jets are coming off a near improbable overtime win last week against the New York Giants, while the Los Angeles Chargers are coming off a blowout win against the Chicago Bears. Who has the edge tonight on Monday Night Football? Let's break it down.
ANALYSIS

Monday Night Football Prediction: Can Zach Wilson, Jets Get the Job Done on MNF?

The New York Jets enter this game with a record of 4-3 and many people did not expect them to have a winning record at this point after Aaron Rodgers suffered his Achilles injury, but here they are. The Jets have been anchored by their elite defense as they have allowed over 20 points in just three games this season which came against the Dallas Cowboys, Kansas City Chiefs, and Denver Broncos, and the Jets covered the spread in two of those games.

Los Angeles Chargers vs. New York Jets Prediction

Last week against the New York Giants, Zach Wilson let a near improbable game tying drive in regulation and then a game winning drive in overtime as he made some incredibly clutch throws. Wilson has had a lot of criticism for his play but what I love about him is the accountability he has been showing in his post-game press conferences and the fact that he has been slowly improving with each passing week.

After the Rodgers injury in Week 1, I'm sure there was a lot of skepticism from both the media and the players in the locker room over whether Wilson could get the job done, but he has put those narratives to bed in my opinion. At this point in the season, I believe Wilson has the full respect of everyone in that locker room and everyone on both sides of the ball is completely bought in.

On the other side, the Los AngelesChargers are coming off one of their more complete performances of the season as they blew out the Bears by a score of 30-13. While it was nice to see the Chargers finally put forth a solid effort on both sides of the ball for 60 minutes, they have struggled with consistency this season. They also always seem to find themselves in very close games as their first five games of the season were all decided by one score or less.

This matchup tonight reminds me a lot of when the Chargers went into Tennessee in Week 2 as 2.5/3 point favorites and were in a back and forth game where they eventually lost in overtime. I fully expect tonight's matchup against the Jets to be extremely close and a one score game either way, as that has just been the Charger's MO to this point. It also needs to be stated that the Charger's coach, Brandon Staley, is one of the worst coaches in the league whose game management decisions frequently backfire on him and the Chargers.

In a game that I anticipate being decided by one score either way, I have to roll with the better coach and the team with the better defense which is the New York Jets. The Jets defense is still elite, and the Chargers are dealing with a lot of injuries on offense, especially in the Wide Receiver room.

The Jets are fourth in the NFL in defensive yards allowed per play and I think they will be able to get a lot of pressure on Justin Herbert tonight which should make him uncomfortable in the pocket. With that being said, I am rolling with Jets +3.5 at -111 for 1.5U as my most confident NFL play of the day for tonight's action as I think the Jets win this game straight up or at least keep it within a field goal.
